2010 JAZZ LUNCH

Chairman Raymond Bisset welcomed a company of 90 at the Grampian-Houston Association’s 2010 Jazz Lunch at the Marcliffe at Pitfodels on Sunday, 7 February,2010.

The company included Burgesses of Guild in the City of Aberdeen. Music was supplied by the Athol Smith Jazzmen.

Long-standing GHA member Graeme J. Wilson M.B.E. was sporting his specially designed  Grampian-Houston tie. He decided that, after 30 years in service, the official GHA tie featuring the Association logo on a plain navy blue or grey background, needed to be “jazzed up.”  So he commissioned London Savile Row tailors Dege and Skinner to come up with a more eye-catching design. Graeme is pictured displaying the end result.

THANKSGIVING DINNER 2010

Guest speaker at the Grampian-Houston Association’s 2010 Thanksgiving Day dinner in Aberdeen was an American-born Church of Scotland minister, the Rev. Ellen Larson Davidson. She told of family celebrations on Thanksgiving Day in her native South Dakota.

She married a Scotsman in 2004 and since 2007 has been minister of the Aberdeenshire charge of Fintray, Kinellar and Keithhall, where Grampian-Houston Association Chairman Raymond G. Bisset O.B.E. is a member of her congregation.

Mr Bisset welcomed guests to the dinner at the Royal Northern and University Club on a snowy evening in Aberdeen. Among those attending was Sarah Perry, from Morganstown, West Virginia. She is a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship student who is on a post-graduate course at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.

Grampian-Houston Board member Councillor Ron McKail proposed the Loyal Toast to H.M. The Queen and the President of the United States, and Councillor John M. Reynolds, Vice-Chairman, of the Grampian-Houston Association, expressed thanks to all those who had contributed to the success of the evening.
