Scots Junior Golfers Houston-
Twelve promising young Scots golfers are looking forward to a fantastic experience
in Houston. They have been selected to take part in the Grampian-
The scheme launched in 1992 offers talented young golfers from Grampian and Highland Regions top class coaching in Texas and perhaps the opportunity to win golf scholarship at American universities.
The 12 teenagers flying to Houston on 11 October for 10 days are Chris Robb (Inchmarlo, Banchory), Ryan Bain (Strathlene, Buckie), Hannah McCook (Abernethy), Rodger Clarke (Moray), Jack Scott (Deeside, Aberdeen), Calum Stewart (Brora), Cameron Nelson (Nairn), Zac Clark (Royal Aberdeen), Nicholas MacAndrew (Cullen),Danny Edwards (Elgin), Alexander Wiseman (Fraserburgh), and Jeff Wright (Forres).
They will play Houston’s top courses and receive coaching from former Open and Masters champion Mark O’Meara and US PGA champion Steve Elkington.
The arrangements in Houston are made by Banchory exile Bruce Davidson, Director of Golf at River Oaks Country Club, Houston and a Fellow of the Professional Golfers’ Association. He initiated the programme to give young Scots golfers the opportunity he enjoyed when he gained a golf scholarship at the University of St Thomas in Houston where he graduated in 1982.
The first visit to Grampian by young golfers from Houston took place in July, 2007 when Bruce Davidson introduced 12 Texan teenagers to six Scottish courses – three in Grampian Region (Royal Aberdeen, Murcar Links, Cruden Bay) and three in Highland Region (Nairn, Dornoch and Skibo Castle).
