A Scotsman has been appointed by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) to represent British interests in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico and Colorado.
Mr Andrew D. Millar has taken over as HM Consul General based in Houston. He succeeds Paul Lynch who has been transferred to South Africa.
Mr Millar, who belongs to Dunbar in East Lothian, was previously Head of the North American Department in the FCO with responsibility for the London end of the UK’s relationship with the US and Canada.
He started his working life at Torness Nuclear Power Station on the east coast of Scotland. After graduating M.A. in Development Economics and BA (Hons) in economics at the University of East Anglia, he joined the Civil Service in 1994 and the FCO in 1996 as regional economist for the Americas and the Caribbean.
The last Scotsman to serve as UK Consul General in Houston was Iain Murray O.B.E. who retired from the FCO in 2007 and died suddenly in 2009.
