DEATH OF HONORARY PRESIDENT


David PatonThe Honorary President of the Grampian-Houston Association David R. Paton O.B.E. of Grandhome died on 4 February, 2019 a month before his 84th birthday.


David was the third Hon. President following in the footsteps of Councillor Sandy Mutch C.B.E. and Councillor Bob Middleton J.P.


He served as GHA Chairman from 1991-92 and was a faithful supporter of the twinning relationship with Houston. He his wife Juliette participated in several GHA exchange visits to Texas.


A chartered surveyor by profession, he was a man of many interests and played a prominent role in an impressive list of local and national organisations. His public service was recognised when he was made an O.B.E. by the Queen.


He served as President of Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Association of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, President of the Scottish Council (Development and Industry), and a Governor of Scottish Business in the Community.


An active conservationist he was a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and served as President of Aberdeen Civic Society, a Director of the North-east Scotland Preservation Trust and a patron of the Scottish Conservation Projects Trust.


David’s sense of humour endeared him to GHA members and he was an entertaining and witty public speaker.


He is survived by his wife Juliette, two sons William and Matthew, and three grandchildren. .
