U.S. Representative in Scotland
The U.S. Government representative in Scotland is Dana M. Linnet who joined the Foreign
Service in 2000. The U.S. has had a continuous diplomatic presence in Scotland since
1798.
Ms Linnet became Principal Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Edinburgh following the departure of Lisa Vickers to take up a post at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in New England.
She gained a B.A. in Politics at the University of California and a M.A. in Political Science at Copenhagen University before working in the information technology sector in the U.S. and Europe.
Her first posting in the Foreign Service was as management chief in the U.S. Consulate
in Naples from 2001-
She has also served as foreign affairs officer in the European Bureau’s Policy and
Regional Affairs Office, senior political officer in the Near East Bureau’s Office
of Iraq and as career development and assignments officer in the Bureau of Human
Resources from 2007-
Ms Linnet is bilingual in English and Danish and can also speak Italian, Estonian, Swedish, German, Norwegian, Spanish and French.
