Death of GHA Founder Member

Bill Gordon, a founder member and past Vice-Chairman of the Grampian-Houston Association, died on 10 November, 2006, at the age of 75.

He was a strong supporter of links with Houston and as business development manager for Aberdeen Journals Ltd, publishers of the Press and Journal and Evening Express newspapers, he organised annual business delegations to the Offshore Technology Conference and exhibition in Houston. The delegations grew from 10 in the early 1970s to more than 450.

He was made an honorary citizen of Houston and when he retired after a 21 year involvement with OTC delegations, the Doubletree Hotel Post Oak (now Houston Hilton Post Oak) named a suite in the hotel after him.

In 1991 he was made an M.B.E. for services to the community and in 2005 he was presented with the Alick Buchanan Smith lifetime achievement award in recognition of his services to the oil industry in Scotland.

He is survived by his wife Doreen, a son and daughter and two grandchildren.
